By far the most notable change the Preview Build 15042 for PCs brings is the removal of the Insider Preview watermark and expiration date. This could mean that the Windows 10 Creators Update might be nearing completion.

Microsoft Edge

Back in January, Microsoft announced that Microsoft Edge would disable Flash content by default, and added a click-to-run feature for users who wish to use Flash. Preview Build 15042 brings further improvement to this feature and adds a new dialog in the URL bar.

This new feature further aids users to know when Edge has blocked Flash content. By clicking the puzzle icon, users can choose to allow Flash run once or every time they return to the same website. In addition, Microsoft Edge gets improved reading experience thanks to the latest preview build. Here is a list of the implemented features for reading EPUB books:

“When reading a locally saved EPUB book in Microsoft Edge on PC, a book icon will now be used in the place of the previous generic in the tab bar. If you switch pages while an EPUB book is being read aloud in Microsoft Edge, the reader will now jump to that new location in the book. If you’ve changed the read aloud settings when reading an EPUB in Microsoft Edge, those settings will now be preserved for subsequently opened books.”

Windows 10 32-bit version bug fixed

Initially, PCs running 32-bit (x86) versions of Windows 10 Preview Builds were unable to run Preview Build 15042. Dona Sarkar, Microsoft’s Software Engineer for the Windows and Devices Group, mentions in the announcement blog post that the company discovered the bug and fixed it.

Cortana

Microsoft has also introduced a new animation for Cortana, which will appear when users land on the Cortana page in OOBE (Out-of-box experience). OOBE is the experience a consumer has when installing and/or performing initial configuration of a piece of hardware or software in a computer.

Logitech BRIO Camera bug and temporary fix

Considering Preview Build 15042 -like all preview builds- is a beta software, bugs and issues are expected. Microsoft’s Scott Hanselman, who works for the Web Platform Team of the company, discovered an issue with the Logitech BRIO camera. In a post on his personal blog, Hanselman notes that his 4k webcam didn’t work after he updated his Windows 10 to Insiders Fast ring Build 15042. Hanselman managed to find a temporary fix which you can check here. Microsoft should likely fix this issue in future builds.

Mobile

Build 15043 for Mobile brings lots of bug fixes and improvements. Among others, Microsoft has announced it fixed an issue which could result in the deletion of users’ personal typing dictionaries. Microsoft has also improved the video playback experience when using Continuum for phone wirelessly over Miracast.
