The vulnerability let attackers remotely gain control of some devices running Intel AMT, potentially executing code or stealing data. Estimates put the number of affected servers at 7,000, but the millions of PCs that connect to those could also be at risk. Thankfully, Microsoft Surface devices aren’t one of them. In a blog post on Thursday, Redmond contractor Brandon Records reassured users: “In the beginning of May, Intel announced that a vulnerability had been detected in their Intel® Active Management Technology (AMT), available in many of their processors and chipsets including some processors and chipsets used in the Surface device lineup,” the lead of Microsoft’s outreach team explained....

In addition, in Preview 4 the default build engine is now MSBuild, instead of xbuild, while users can specify portable and embedded compiler options in project options. The company explains that some apps running on the Nvidia GPU versions of the Surface Book 2 are not opening or crashing when open. The company says “Calendar attachments are now available in Outlook. View inline images and open attachments right from the event details.” Users have been requesting this feature for a long time, mostly because it brings more power to the calendar. At its core, the latest update for the app simply brings improved sharing controls to OneDrive. It is now officially spring north of the equator, which means Microsoft’s Spring Hardware event is coming soon. It is worth mentioning before continuing that the company has not officially announced such an event. So, we are firmly in the land of speculation here as there is at least a possibility that Microsoft will not launch any Surface product this spring. Microsoft was certainly ready to pull the trigger on the Spring Update. The company released the RTM (release to manufacturing) build on the Insider Program release preview branch last week. In other words, it was all good to go and would be rolled out on Patch Tuesday. By the way, I am still running with the Spring Creators Update or Spring Update names for Version 1803. Microsoft has not officially announced the official name, so I stand to be corrected on this matter....

Specifically, the company is sending out Windows Preview Build 17004 for PC today. If you are unfamiliar with Skip Ahead, it was launched in July and added a new branch to the Windows Insider Program. It allows users to jump forward to build ahead of the next Windows 10 release. At this moment, that means Insiders on Skip Ahead can preview Redstone 4. Microsoft is currently developing Redstone 3, which most people know as the Fall Creators Update....

If you’re unfamiliar with Windows Core OS (WCOS), it is a modular version of Windows 10. By creating a modular Windows experience, Microsoft can put the full power of Windows 10 on any device. WCOS will provide Microsoft with a platform that will work on mobile devices and PCs alike. Users on smartphones will be able to receive a full Windows 10 PC-quality experience. As the platform would be expanding across form factors, it makes sense some aspects of Windows 10 will look different....
